The keynote

SPEAKING

Most keynotes leave people nodding in the room and unchanged by Monday morning. This one is built differently.

The IMPACT keynote follows real and relevant stories drawn from Jim’s career as a professional actor, from organisations including EY, TESCO, and Clifford Chance, from moments in history and from opportunities that went catastrophically wrong. Each one to unlock a specific, learnable element of what it means to communicate with genuine impact.

It is not a motivational talk. It is a practical one with a narrative spine. Audiences leave with a clear framework, specific techniques they can apply the same week, and a different understanding of what has been getting in the way.

What the talk covers

The six elements of the IMPACT framework - Intention, Mindset, Preparation, Awareness, Content, Take a Risk - explored through the stories behind them. Not theory illustrated by examples, but real moments of failure, recovery, and discovery that make each element feel concrete and personally relevant.

Each element carries a practical technique. Something specific, tested, and immediately applicable to the communication challenges your audience faces every day.

What audiences leave with

- A clear, memorable framework for thinking about communication that does not require a follow-up course to use
- Specific techniques for managing the internal noise that undermines delivery under pressure
- A different understanding of why some communicators hold a room and others don’t - and what to do about it
- Permission to approach communication as a skill rather than a fixed personality trait

Duration: 45 to 60 minutes. Can be adapted for keynote, opening address, or closing session formats. Q&A available. Jim is also available for facilitated discussion or breakout sessions following the talk where the event format allows.
